He was a free agent throughout the entire offseason. Just last week, he signed with a new team, and today, he abruptly announced his retirement.

Amari Cooper was only with the Buffalo Bills for a couple of weeks, but it feels like it was longer. Now, unless he changes his mind, they are the last team that he will have played a professional game with.

Amari Cooper announces his retirement

Last week, Cooper was set to return to the Las Vegas Raiders where he began his career in 2015. But today he decided to hang up his cleats instead.

According to NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, Cooper had been struggling to "ramp up" to play with the Raiders and decided to retire.

Cooper has been around the league

Cooper has a number of teams that he's played for over the last couple of years. He started with the Raiders after being drafted there in 2015. In 2018, he was traded to the Cowboys for a first-round draft pick in the 2019 draft.

Cooper was traded, once again, before the 2022 season to the Cleveland Browns. This time, though, it was for a 5th round pick and a swap of 6th round picks.

It was in October of 2024 that the Browns traded Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

He became a free agent after the 2024 season and chose to go back where it all started for him with the Raiders, but instead chose to retire after just one week with the team.

He will finish his career as a five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver with 711 receptions for 10,033 yards with 64 touchdowns.
