Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Proper hydration is essential in order to maintain healthy skin.  Lack of water in-take and too much alcohol have a negative impact on your complexion.  Use the right products for cleansing, toning, and most importantly, moisturizing to help combat fine lines and wrinkles and stabilize oil production in the skin.  Think of your skin as a grape, as you lose hydration your skin starts to wrinkle.  Moisturizing helps plump the skin and gives you that healthy glow.  Moisturize day and night even if your skin is oily.  Oily skin types should choose a lighter moisturizer or a lotion vs a cream.

Don’t Skip the Eye Cream

Our eye area is the only area on your face that does not have oil glands. Eye cream is an important step to combat puffiness, dark circles and crow’s feet.  Many women make the mistake of waiting until they are in their 40’s to try an eye cream.  Starting in the 20’s is definitely preventative.  Do not use too much product.  Do not rub.  Apply properly by dotting along the orbital bone below your eyebrow and in a semi-circle under your eye about a ½” below your lash line.  Use both morning and night and if you have concerns about this area, keep an eye cream in your purse to re-apply during the day.

Skin Care is Dynamic

Your skin is constantly changing based on the season, age, health and lifestyle.  It’s important to choose the right products for the proper season and your particular situation. You may need to choose a lighter moisturizer in the summer and creamier/richer moisturizer in the winter.  Products that contain retinols increase your sensitivity to the sun’s rays so they need to be avoided when spending significant time in the sun.  It’s important to work with an experienced esthetician who can analyze your skin and help you modify your skin care routine to both save money and improve results.

Try a Jade Roller or Gua Sha Tool

Consider investing in a Jade Roller or Gua Sha Tool.  These affordable at home tools will help improve blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, reduce facial tension and improve penetration and absorption of products into the skin.
