Some people call it disc golf. Some call it "frolfing" (frisbee golfing). But if you haven't ever played it, you should give it a try this summer.

Disc golf is great for you

Looking for a sport that will get you out of the house, but also won't cost you any teeth or leave you with any broken bones? Disc golf could be your perfect option. I just started playing a couple of years ago and it's become one of my favorite things to do in the summer. Its an opportunity to walk a couple of miles and get your body stretched out from your core to your upper body, but not strenuous enough that it's going to make you sore for a week.

How is disc golf different from regular golf?

Disc golf is similar to golf in a couple of ways. You're still trying to move an object from a tee box to a final goal. In regular golf, it's a hole. In disc golf it's a basket. Of course, you use golf balls in golf, but in disc golf, as you'd imagine, it's discs. You still count your throws like you count strokes in golf and you want to have the lowest score at the end of the day.

Disc golf is a lot like regular golf, only cheaper

The biggest difference, besides the clubs, is the cost. Disc golf can cost you close to nothing at all to get started playing. You'll need some discs that you can buy for cheap at a sporting goods store or Amazon. But when it comes to green fees, there are very few places that have them. Most of the places where you play are public parks. So once you have your discs, it's essentially free!

If you've never tried it, make this the summer that you give it a shot. It's a simple game, but to get good, there are a bunch of little adjustments you'll need to make to your throw. It might just become your favorite sport.
