Best Dog Friendly Places in Buffalo – Clay’s Top Five
My dog Pepper has quickly become a big part of my life. Just like any other dog owner, I actively seek out locations where I can take Pepper. Here are some of Buffalo's best places where dogs are welcome.
Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site
641 Delaware Ave. (Map)
If you are looking for a cultured setting for some quality time with your dog take him to the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site. The TR Inaugural Site offers guided walking tours in the summer of the historic Delaware Ave. neighborhood surrounding the house itself. Dogs are welcomed on walks as long as they are kept on a leash and cleaned up after.

The Barkyard
LaSalle Park (Map)
Originally started as a temporary no leash area of LaSalle Park in 2007, Barkyard is now a permanent fixture of the park where dogs can enjoy 70,000 sq feet of fenced-in freedom. Barkyard even caters to smaller dogs and has a separate area for them to play without the intimidating presence of an off-leash Rottweiler.
Knox Farm State Park
Route 16 just north of East Aurora (Map)
Knox Farm State Park has lots of trails and wide open spaces. It's a beautiful old farm that the Knox family donated to New York state a few years back and I understand that the town of Aurora has taken over the responsibilities of keeping it up and running. There is a leash law in effect and a "pick up after your dog" rule as well! One of the best places to take dogs on a long quiet walk in WNY!

Orvis Store
4545 Transit Road (Map)
If you are looking to gear both yourself and your dog with some stylish camping gear head to the Orvis store in the Eastern Hills Mall. Leashed dogs are allowed in the store with their owners to browse everything from tents and fishing poles to dog jackets and programmed portion control dog bowls.
