It's so hard to really gauge anything from early preseason games. Teams usually play their projected starters for a quarter at best, and that's exactly the formula the Bills followed Sunday night in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio.

As it turned out, EJ Manuel and company played only two series in a 17-13 loss to the New York Giants.

Backup quarterbacks Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis played the bulk of the game. Tuel threw for a touchdown and was intercepted in the end zone late in the first half to end a Bills drive. Lewis was picked off once.

Receiver Robert Woods caught four passes, including one for a touchdown on a 4th and goal from the 2-yard line. First round draft pick Sammy Watkins played only briefly. He was held without a catch. Two passes directed his way were batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Next up for the Bills is a Friday night game against the Panthers in Carolina.
