This one seems to be a little bit of a head-scratcher on the surface.  The Buffalo Bills  signed another quarterback to their practice squad.  Here is why.

In case you're wondering, this doesn't have much to do with the future of the Bills, but everything to do with the Bills moving on to the next step in the playoffs.  Today, the Bills signed Anthony Brown to their practice squad in order to get as close as they can to replicating what it's like to play against Lamar Jackson.

Not only is Anthony Brown formerly from the Ravens, but he's a very mobile quarterback.  Right now the Bills have Mitch Trubisky and Mike White behind Allen and neither of them really play like Lamar.  McDermott wanted someone on the practice squad who could mimic Jackson as closely as possible.  He understands it's impossible to replicate what he does, but he wants to give his team the best shot possible.

I know this is a controversial take but for years now I've been saying that the Bills might want to start thinking about their next quarterback. Since Josh Allen has been in the league he has had a bit of a carousel of backups behind him.  The list includes names like Nathan Peterman, Derek Anderson, Matt Barkley, Davis Webb, Jake Fromm, Kyle Allen, Mitch Trubisky, Mike White, and more.

Luckily, we haven't needed much from any of them.  Josh Allen still holds the NFL's current longest starting streak.

I've always thought it was pretty amazing how Green Bay has been able to go from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers and now to Jordan Love almost seamlessly.  So how great would it be to find another guy and start to develop him now?  You could have Josh Allen teach him and help him grow.  Even if Josh didn't give him any time and only concentrated on his own game, I can't imagine the backup wouldn't learn just from being around him.

The Bills will square off against the actual Lamar Jackson and the rest of the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium on Sunday at 6:30 pm to see who moves on to the AFC Championship game against either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Houston Texans.
