The Census Bureau has released a study that might be shocking to some and comforting to others in Buffalo.  The Buffalo region boasts the most households where the female is the breadwinner in the family.

Times are changing.  And from the looks of things, they’re changing in Buffalo sooner than they are in other parts of the country.

This study says that Buffalo holds the most female breadwinners in the country with the share of female breadwinners at 33%.  Of those breadwinners, the average income is $70,000 and the men in those families earn an average of $33,000.

Now, it would be easy to say that there’s still a huge gap where 66% of men are still the breadwinners but even in those families, the difference isn’t as big.  The median income for all men in Buffalo is $45,000 and the median income for all women in Buffalo is $35,000.

There is still a big gap, but it looks like Buffalo is headed in the right direction when it comes to income equality.

Here is the rest of the top 5:

  2. Hartford, CT
  3. Sacramento, CA
