A hospital that has been in Buffalo since the 1800's is about to get a brand new name thanks to a big gift from Scott and Kathy Bieler.

If it's getting harder for you to remember the names of things these days, it might not just be an age issue. It's just because a lot of names are changing.

Buffalo General Medical Center is being renamed

Kaleida Health has announced that they will be renaming Buffalo General Medical Center after what they're calling a "transformational" gift from West Herr Automotive Group CEO and majority owner Scott Bieler and his wife Kathy.

They did not disclose the amount of the gift.

“It is very hard for me to put into words just how humbled, honored, and grateful we are at Kaleida Health and Buffalo General to be the recipients of such a historic and transformational gift. Scott and Kathy, your generosity is extraordinary.” - Kaleida Health CEO Don Boyd

Bieler said the gift was his way of giving back to Western New York for supporting his business over the years.

The new name will be simple to remember

It will be a simple name to remember. The new name will be the Scott Bieler Buffalo General Medical Center and it will go into effect in January. Bieler hopes that this gift will not only help the campus and doctors now, but will continue to help for years to come.

“We’ve made this gift to support the long-term vision — and hopefully this gift will help Buffalo General and the Gates Vascular Institute for generations to come, not just the next few years. … The impact they have on lives is unbelievable.” - Scott Bieler CEO and majority owner at West Herr Automotive Group.
