Hunger, poverty and homelessness affect every nation — even the richest and most powerful.

It is not surprising to me that Buffalo makes the list of most needy cities.  The City Mission is always at capacity and charity organizations such as the Salvation Army, Food Bank of WNY and others are forever working to fill the needs of the homeless and the hungry in Western New York.

According to Feeding America, food insecurity plagues every U.S. county, with more than 41 million individuals lacking access to adequate food. More than 40 million, or 12.7 percent of the population, live in poverty. And in the absence of more affordable housing or accommodations provided by relatives or friends, many must take to the streets or shelters.

Detroit ranks #1 and Cleveland is #2 while Buffalo ranks #36 in this Wallhub list.
