Buffalo Sabres Coach Campaigning For Who?

The NHL's contract with the league's player's association calls for a mandatory five-day break for each team during the season.  Some players take off for warmer climates during their break.  Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons traveled to California where he proposed to his girlfriend.  Sabres coach Phil Housley did something completely different.

Phil Housley's wife Karin Housley is running for United States Senator in Minnesota in a special election to fill the office of Al Franken who recently resigned under pressure following accusations of sexual misconduct.  Karin Housley is a Minnesota state senator and is the only Republican in the running for the vacated seat.

During the kickoff for her campaign over the weekend her husband Phil was on hand to help her campaign.  Both Phil and Karin Housley are Minnesota natives.

Karin Housley told supporters in a kick-off event in Stillwater, Minnesota that she's “running for all the women who have been underestimated.”  She said. “I will never be silent when it comes to things issues that matter.”

Karin Housley wrote a book on financial investing.  She said she was inspired to write the book when her financial advisor told her to focus on cooking meals and changing diapers.
