It's amazing the difference 24 hours can make.  One night after losing their sixth straight game at home in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins, the Buffalo Sabres reversed the score against the Washington Capitals.  Phil Varone and Tim Schaller each scored their first goals of the season as the Sabres built a 4-0 lead against the NHL's top team and cruised to a 4-1 win.

Varone had just been called up from Rochester to take the place of Zemgus Girgensons who had been injured the night before and it paid immediate dividends for the Sabres.  Varone didn't waste any time taking advantage of his opportunity.  He opened the scoring in the first period while Schaller added to the lead a short time later.

Evander Kane scored his 9th goal of the season while Cody Franson scoring his fourth on the power play as the Sabres ended their six-game losing streak on home ice.  Chad Johnson in goal stopped 33 shots.

The Sabres now head out west for games in Arizona and Colorado Monday and Wednesday before returning home on Friday to host the Detroit Red Wings.
