The Buffalo Sabres finished their three-game road trip out west with a pretty successful outcome.

The Sabres took four of a possible six points on the trip, with the last win coming on Saturday night in San Jose against the Sharks, 4-2.

Buffalo is currently three points out of a wild card playoff spot, but the Sabres have one game in-hand on the Pittsburgh Penguins and a whopping five games in-hand on the New York Islanders: the two teams who currently occupy those final two wild card playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

Speaking of the Penguins, they lost last night which helped the Sabres playoff hopes but they did tweet out a stat that Sabres fans have been slamming since Saturday night.

The Penguins PR account says that after Evgeni Malkin's 20th goal on Saturday night, that means four Penguins players have scored 20 or more goals this season: Sidney Crosby (25), Jake Guentzel (23), Rickard Rakell (21) and Malkin (20).

They said no other team in the NHL has more 20+ goal scorers.

The only problem with that is the Sabres now have five 20+ goal scorers this season, with Dylan Cozens' first-period goal just after the Penguins lost against the New Jersey Devils, 5-2.

Sabres fans noticed.

Technically, the Penguins tweet was accurate when they tweeted it, but they probably should have known that the Sabres could get to five players after their game.

Cozens could reach 30 goals this season, which would be a huge breakout year; and one that the Sabres felt was the time to reward the young star with a new 7-year contract extension, worth just a shade under $50 million.
