For the fifth time in the last 12 seasons the Buffalo Sabres will open the regular season against the Montreal Canadiens.  The game on Thursday, October 5th at 7:00 pm at KeyBank Center will be followed by a trip to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, October 7th where the Sabres will play the New York Islanders.

So how well have the Sabres done in season openers?  Not so well in recent seasons; the Sabres have lost four straight season openers and four straight home openers.  They fell to the Canadiens 4-1 in last year's home opener.

The NHL released the complete 2017-18 season schedule on Thursday.  The Sabres play 40 home games this season at KeyBank Center with their January 1st game against the New York Rangers at Citi Field in New York City being considered a Sabres home game.

The Sabres make their only trip to Las Vegas to meet the expansion Golden Knights on October 17th as part of a four-game western road trip.  The Golden Knights make their only visit to Buffalo on March 10th.

The rival Toronto Maple Leafs don't play the Sabres at all until March when the two teams play four times in the last 17 games.  The Leafs play in Buffalo on March 5th and March 15th.
