Ontario Drivers Will Be Billed Driving Through NYS Cashless Tolls
There have been ongoing talks between the New York State Thruway Authority and the Canadian province of Ontario dealing with charging Canadian vehicles who drive through New York State cashless tolls, such as the Grand Island Bridges.
Now that seems to finally be a reality.
According to WIVB, an agreement between the New York State Thruway Authority and the Canadian province of Ontario has been reached, meaning Canadian drivers who travel over those roadways will now be billed.
Drivers from Canada were not tolled when the cashless tolls on the Grand Island Bridges were installed because the license plates would not register.
The entire state thruway will be cashless by the end of 2020, which means Canadian and US drivers alike will be billed for driving through the tolls.
