It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming. This Week’s Hometown Hero is Coast Guard Captain Brian Roche from Levittown, NY!

His nomination says:

Capt. Roche is a native of Levittown, N.Y. and enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1979. He entered Recruit Training Center Cape May, N.J., in March 1980 and graduated a member of Recruit Company Charlie 106. He has spent a career specializing in Boat Operations, Search and Rescue, and Law Enforcement. His enlisted assignments include the Ceremonial Honor Guard, Washington, D.C., Station Fort Macon and the Coast Guard Cutter Chilula, home ported in Ft Macon, N.C. From there he rose through the ranks to Boatswain’s Mate First Class and was accepted to Officer Candidate School where he was the honor graduate in July 1991.
Capt. Roche currently serves as Commander of Sector Buffalo, New York. He oversees Coast Guard missions from Massena, New York to Vermillion, Ohio while performing as the Captain of the Port, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On Scene Coordinator, and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.
His other assignments as a Commissioned Officer include Coast Guard Headquarters Short Range Aids to Navigation Division, Operations Officer Group Sandy Hook, N.J., Operations Officer Coast Guard Recruiting Command, Commanding Officer Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, N.J., the Senior Officer Evaluation Reviewer and Response/Law Enforcement Assignment Officer, Coast Guard Personnel Command, and Chief, Boat Forces and Cutter Operations Branch, Training Center Yorktown, V.A, Deputy Commander of Sector Baltimore, Maryland.
Capt. Roche’s personal decorations and qualifications include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, 5 Coast Guard Achievement Medals, the 9/11 Medal, the Coxswain Insignia, the advanced Boat Forces Operations Insignia and the Ceremonial Honor Guard Insignia.
Capt. Roche earned his Master’s of Science in Quality Systems Management from the National Graduate School. He is married to the former Helen Freeman from Swansea, South Wales, United Kingdom. They have two children, Cheryl and Ian.
