Cat Declawing Possibly Becoming Illegal in New York
There is a bill in front of both the Senate and Assembly regarding the ban of cat declawing in New York State.
Supporters of the ban say it is completely unnecessary – it's inhumane and 'painful' to the cat. After all to declaw a cat, you have to cut through bone, tendon and nerves to amputate the first segment of a cat's toes.
Opposers say that it is necessary in some instances if you have a nasty or destructive clawing cat. In many situations, if there were destructive cats, they would be euthanized so, declawing it is a better and simpler solution. They also argue that during declawing, most times the cat is under some drugs.
