When you hear the word “cheesy,” you may think of something that’s corny and eye-rolling. Dad jokes, rom-com movies, old reruns of The Lawrence Welk show; you get the picture.

But here in Buffalo, our minds go a completely different route when it comes to things we think are cheesy. Considering the Queen City is one of the most recognized and celebrated food cities in the world, we can only think of the obvious…

Duh, cheese.

Gooey mozzarella on our pizza. Sweet and delicious farmer cheese in our pierogis. And, come on… Spaghetti Parm from Chef’s, anyone?

So it’s no surprise that the American Cheese Society, the largest supporter of U.S. cheesemakers in the country,  chose to hold their annual conference in our fair city this past week.

And man– we wish we were there.

The conference, which, according to Buffalo Business First, had close to 2,000 cheesemakers from all over America descending on Western New York, was held at the Buffalo Convention Center from July 10th through 13th, attracts both major U.S. cheese manufacturers like Wegmans (who was one of the sponsors of the conference), to small artisan cheesemakers from all over the country.

There are several happenings going on throughout the four day event, from tasting competitions to lectures on hot topics in the cheese industry. You can even take a test to become a Certified Cheese Professional (!).

So, it was nice knowing you … I’m pretty sure I’ve just discovered my dream job. How do I get a ticket for this next year? Because I am so there.
