According to a new report released this week, there are several bridges in New York State that are in need of repairs.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli recently posted on "X", formerly known as Twitter, that "Our report found one 1 in 10 locally owned bridges in NYS is rated in poor condition. Municipalities need funding to make sorely needed repairs".
According to the report, "When the state Department of Transportation inspects a bridge, it assigns a rating or score – ranging from 0 (worst) to 9 (best) – to major bridge components based on their capacity to carry vehicular loads. If any major component receives a score of 4 or below, the bridge is rated “poor.” Here in New York State, 9% of the bridges they looked at were rated poor!
Here in Western New York, we have a variety of taller bridges that give drivers anxiety because of their height. This report will only add to that anxiety for some!
