For the second time this year, an earthquake shook parts of New York State. An earthquake near the New York State and Canadian Border was recorded late on Sunday night.

2.0 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded In New York State

According to multiple reports, a 2.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Keeseville, New York, just before 8 pm on Sunday night. There were over 30reports of shaking being felt near Plattsburgh and Burlington, Vermont, from the quake. No major damage was reported from this earthquake.

2nd Earthquake In New York State In 2026

This earthquake was the second one of the year reported in New York State. The other was in late January with the epicenter near Toronto, but felt all the way south in Western New York.

That earthquake was reported as a 4.1 magnitude earthquake.

On September 4, 1944, an earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude was reported. It was centered between Massena, New York, and Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. According to news reports from the day, the earthquake caused an estimated two million dollars in damage to the two cities.
