Need a little extra money for the holidays? Here in New York State, if you are willing to do get a little dirty, there is a great way to get some extra cash.

As we get closer to the end of the year, and wait to see what will happen in 2025 pertaining to the deposit and return on cans and bottles, there are ways to get cash from the beverage containers you may have not considered.

We all know that a beer can, or bottle, will fetch you five cents, but it does not stop there.

According to New York State and a post from the DEC, you can get cash back for:

-Carbonated Soft Drinks, including Sparkling Water
-Carbonated Energy Drinks
-Carbonated Juice (anything less than 100% juice, containing added sugar or water)
-Carbonated Tea
-Soda Water
-Beer and Other Malt Beverages
-Mineral Water - Both carbonated and non-carbonated mineral water
-Wine Products
-Water which does not contain sugar, including flavored or nutritionally enhanced water

IS NEW YORK RAISING THE CAN DEPOSIT TO TEN CENTS?

The five cent deposit has been active since 1983 and it may be changing soon. According to reports, "The bill — which is carried by state Sen. Rachel May and Assemblywoman Deborah Glick — would raise the deposit and handling fees, as well as expanding which containers are redeemable".
