Expect Bacon Prices To Rise As Bacon Reserves Get Low
Everyone panic! If there was ever a time to do it, now would be the time. It looks like bacon prices are going up. Yes, you heard me. Bacon prices will be going up - sounds like reason to panic to me!
According to WGRZ, the nation's bacon reserves are at a 50 year low. It makes sense. I mean, who doesn't love bacon? And if that many people are eating it, farmers will have to struggle to keep up with that demand.
“Today’s pig farmers are setting historic records by producing more pigs than ever,” said Rich Deaton, president of the Ohio Pork Council. “Yet our reserves are still depleting.”
So yes...we need more pigs to go to market. While prices might increase, they do not anticipate that we will completely run out. So maybe not as much reason to panic as we thought.
They've added that foreign demand might be contributing to the decline in reserves.
