In a morning meeting of area GOP leaders, Chris Jacobs has been named as the candidate for the NY-27 seat ahead of this April's special election.

The seat was previously held by Chris Collins, who was recently sentenced to 26 months in prison for his role in an insider trading scheme.

The Buffalo News reports it was a close choice between Jacobs and state senator Robert G. Ortt of North Tonawanda.

"While there was strong support for two candidates, Mr. Jacobs had the most votes," said state Republican Chairman Nicholas A. Langworthy to the Buffalo News.
