The internet has been buzzing over a post that has since gone viral about two great white sharks that are said to be headed to the Great Lakes.

This is the viral post that everyone is questioning

If you've ever jumped into the dark waters of Lake Erie, or any of the Great Lakes, really, you may have wondered what you're swimming with. This summer, people are going to be questioning it even more after seeing this post. It claims that two great white sharks are headed in our direction.

The Facebook post claims that two sharks named Kira and Finn have been tagged and as they follow their location, are headed toward the Great Lakes.

"Officials say there’s no possible way this is actually happening…
but that hasn’t stopped everyone from side-eyeing the shoreline, rethinking beach days, and questioning every wave that moves a little too confidently."

This post reminds us to check where everything comes from on Facebook

Unfortunately, nowhere in that post does it say that it's not actually happening. It tells people to question everything they know to be true about fresh water and sharks that only swim in salt water. Somebody's family member is going to read that and think that it's true, when everything logical says that it's not.
It's a good reminder to always check our sources before sharing things.
One of the best explanations about all the reasons why it couldn't happen came from Dane at WIDV in Detroit. Aside from the fact that great white sharks couldn't survive in fresh water, it would also be way too cold for them, and just listen to his explanation of how far they would have to swim just to get there!

You might see some snakes in the lake. Maybe you'll see some really sharp rocks. But I'm pretty sure you're not going to have to worry about becoming a victim of a great white shark attack in Lake Erie this summer.
