The winter of 2021 has felt more like a traditional winter than those in the recent past and it may have a big impact on your car or truck.

There is nothing better or worse for the icy conditions than salt that is used on the roads. It is always a comforting feeling to know that the roads have been treated on an icy day when you have to drive around Western New York. But at the same time, the corrosion that happens to your vehicle as a result of the salt is a pain in the neck.

There are some who will only purchase a used car that was originally owned by someone who lives in the south where the cars don't face the corrosion that vehicles here in the north do.

DMV.org posted an article about the things you can do to keep your car protected. Among the list is the advice to

avoid puddles and plow trucks: Puddles can hold larger amounts of salt, and driving behind the plow means you will be the first to drive through a fresh layer of salt. Wash your vehicle after a snow storm: Get the salt off your car as soon as possible!

The only other advice that I have is to carry an extra gallon of windshield washer fluid in the vehicle. We have reached the point of winter in which the sun is melting the snow on the roads and it causes a salty water spray to cover the vehicles on the roads.
