New York State Record Beaten By This Athlete In WNY
Many high school athletes are content to simply set records for their school. Last week, an athlete in Western New York broke a state record that had been set since 2018.
One Of The Most Exciting High School Games Ever
It was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen in person as the Eden Raiders took on the WNY Maritime Tapestry Charter School Seahawks in Eden last Friday night.
WNY Maritime Tapestry Charter School looked as though they might pull away as early as the first quarter when they were leading 16-6, but a strong second quarter for the Raiders resulted in a 26-16 score at the half, with the Raiders in the lead.
The second half was a back-and-forth battle like two boxers exchanging blows. It was everything you wanted to see from high school athletes on the field. They were playing hard but still displaying great sportsmanship. When players were injured, others would come over to check on them or give them a hand up off the ground, even if they weren't on the same team.
The final score was 63-62 with Eden in the lead. Congrats to both teams on a hard-fought game.
Congrats to Eden quarterback Brady Waring for setting a new state record
One of the biggest stories of the night was Eden quarterback Brady Waring, who set a new record in New York State for Most Touchdown Passes in a Game with 9. It's a record that has stood since 2018. It was originally set in 2012 by Shawn Sweeney of Geneva and then matched by four more quarterbacks since then. They all threw for 8 in a game. Waring is the first to throw for 9.
He finished the game 23/35 for 435 yards and 9 touchdowns.
