There have been many comparisons made over the years between Adolf Hitler and Napoleon Bonaparte.  Hitler himself compared himself to Napoleon and when he made his only visit to German-occupied Paris during World War II, one of the things he wanted to do most was see Napoleon's tomb.  Afterward, he called it "the greatest and finest moment of his life."

Among the comparisons:

  • They were both foreigners to the countries they ruled (Napoleon was Italian, Hitler was Austrian)
  • Both planned invasions of Russia while preparing invasions of England
  • Both captured the Russian city of Vilna on June 24th
  • Both had photographic memories
  • Both were under 5 feet 9 inches tall

But Hitler was more than just a tourist.  He ordered that two World War I monuments be destroyed because he didn't want any reminders of past German defeat.  He was was also so impressed by Paris that he ordered plans for a massive construction program of new public buildings in Berlin.  He wanted Berlin to replace Paris as the most beautiful city in the world.

Some interesting things about Hitler – he had no interest in sports or games and never exercised except for an occasional walk.  He often would pace in his office diagonally from corner to corner.

He hated to be seen without a coat or jacket, even on the hottest day.

His press secretary once tried to get him to shave his moustache or at least to let it grow normally.  He said if his moustache wasn’t fashionable it would be some day.
