You Think It Was Cold In Buffalo, Check Out This Place

The 2022-23 winter season in Buffalo and Western New York has been a weird one, to say the least. There have been several serious weather systems that hit the area and left us reeling afterward trying to deal with recovery.

Two major snowstorms, in November and December respectively, dropped more than 100 inches of snow on the area and were directly linked to more than 40 deaths was something that we've never seen in the 716. Those two storms were considered a once-in-a-lifetime storm and a once-in-a-generation storm, with one of those storms, the Blizzard of 2022, being the longest-lasting blizzard in New York history with conditions lasting for more than 37 consecutive hours.

If that wasn't bad enough, January brought a record 28 days without any sunshine beaming down on Buffalo, which is one of the reasons why Buffalo is often considered one of the gloomiest cities in the nation.

This leads us right into February 2023, which brought with it some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in a very long time. The frigid temperatures that arrived in early February 2023 forced many schools to close in an attempt to help keep children out of dangerously cold temperatures.

Temperatures struggled to stay in the single digits, as many areas held closer to 0°F with wind chills hovering around -10°F or colder.

However, for as frigid as it was in the Buffalo area, it doesn't come anywhere close to the conditions that were reported by the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire.

The Observatory saw temperatures fall to nearly -50°F with wind gusts reaching more than 90 miles per hour. Those gusts caused wind chills as cold as -108°F.
