Town of Niagara, Ontario Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Solar Eclipse

The Chair of the Niagara Region, Jim Bradley, issued the declaration ahead of the total solar eclipse,

"On April 8, all of Niagara will be one of the best places in Canada to view the total solar eclipse, and thousands of visitors are expected to come to our region to see it. In order to make sure Niagara is prepared to accommodate this once-in-a-lifetime event, and out of an abundance of caution, Regional Chair Jim Bradley proactively declared a State of Emergency for Niagara Region under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA), effective today, March 28."

Thousands of people are expected to visit the Southern Ontario and Western New York regions to view the eclipse. Most schools in Niagara will be closed for the day. Officials recommend residents fill up their gas tanks and get groceries before Monday. Residents should also prepare for long lines and crowds of tourists.

The total solar eclipse's path will be from Mexico starting around 11:07 a.m. PDT, into Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Once it has traveled through the United States, it will enter Canada into Southern Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.
