Surprise Bills Player Won’t Play Tonight Against the Jets
The Buffalo Bills are about to play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
The Monday Night Football matchup will be the final game in an eventful week 1 across the NFL.
It’s also the 22-year anniversary of 9/11 and there will be a ton of emotion pregame, before the kickoff.
The Bills had troubles with the Jets a season ago, mainly offensive troubles, as they had a tough time getting anything going against a stout Jets defense. That stout defense looks to be returning as Josh Allen will have to be sharp tonight.
As for the Bills defense, they will go against future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in what’s his first regular season game for New York. However, two prominent defensive backs will not dress tonight.
In what was reported this morning, safety Damar Hamlin will be inactive tonight. The move isn’t a surprise, as the Bills have a loaded defensive backfield who are all healthy. It also allows him to gradually work his way back to regular season form.
But a surprise to some fans is that 2022 first round cornerback Kaiir Elam is inactive.
Elam has played behind 2022 sixth round pick Christian Benford and former seventh round pick Dane Jackson all training camp, so this isn’t a shock, but to not dress for the first game of the season after being a first round the spring before, is eye-opening.
It will be Benford starting opposite Tre’Davious White, who is tasked with defending star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Kickoff is at 8:20 pm.
