An Award-Winning Anchor Leaving WGRZ By The End Of The Year

She's easily one of the most popular personalities on our local TV stations here in Buffalo.  But it looks as though Kate Welshofer will be leaving WGRZ soon.

Who is Kate Welshofer?

Kate Welshofer has been on WGRZ for the last 6 years now, working everything from the anchor desk to interviews of people who are all about Buffalo.  For the last 4 years she's been the host of "Most Buffalo" which covers everything from news to lifestyle pieces about places and people here in the area that personify our city.

She is an award-winning journalist

Throughout her time here in Buffalo, she has proven that she's one of the best in the business.  She's earned, not only a regional Edward R. Murrow Award but also the prestigious national Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in writing for small TV markets.  She's also won "Top Anchor in a Midsized to Small Market from the trade publication Broadcasting & Cable.

Kate is leaving WGRZ

According to the Buffalo News, an email was sent out to the staff at WGRZ to inform them that Kate would be leaving by the end of the year.  The News was able to reach her by phone to confirm that it was true.  She did not give any reasons as to why she had chosen to leave.

Will she be headed to another station here in Buffalo?  Will she move to another city for another broadcasting job?  Will she be leaving the broadcasting industry altogether?  We will have to wait and see what is next for Kate.  But she will be missed on WGRZ for sure.
