It's going to be another long weekend filled with shoveling and plowing as a lake effect snow warning is issued in Western New York.

Normally they say that March comes in like a lion but it appears as though that's going to be the mantra of 2025.  New Year's Day is looking like it's going to be a snowy one.

The National Weather Service has just issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for multiple counties in Western New York starting at 7:00 am and going straight through Sunday at 6:00 pm.

It appears as though we will see some rain tonight and into tomorrow.  Then starting tomorrow morning, that rain will mix with snow and create for some dangerous driving conditions well south of Buffalo.

Expect to see the most accumulation in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Southern Erie, and Wyoming counties.  People there can expect to see around 1-2 feet of snow if they are within the snow band. There will also be a Winter Storm Watch in effect in Jefferson, Lewis, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego counties through Sunday.

There are also multiple reports of a Polar Vortex that is making its way toward the east coast next week and bringing along frigid temperatures with it.

If you live in the southern tier, now is the time to make sure that your snowblowers are ready to go and that your shovels are out of the garage.  You can also expect that there will be travel restrictions coming along with the storms.  Pennsylvania has already begun to warn people about possible restrictions that will be implemented in the event of extreme weather.
