There is another food recall that has been announced that may affect some New York State shoppers.
It seems that we are getting more and more product recalls these days. Is it the fact that we have social media and these recalls get more attention? Or are companies being more transparent about certain dangers to avoid lawsuits? Either way, there is yet another food recall.
Did you shop for peanuts or nuts this past weekend? There is a recall that has been announced that pertains to a particular mixed nut. The FDA Says that, "Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems".
I grew up in the late 1980s and early 1990s and wonder if there were nut allergies in kids that went unnoticed? These days, we are very aware of the dangers of these types of allergies. In fact, I recently became an assistant little league baseball coach and when we were given rosters, it was noted who had a nut allergy. It is vital information as exposure can be a serious medical issue for these kids.
"Peanuts and nuts that grow on trees are among the most common foods to cause a life-threatening severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)".
