There were 50,000 people at the St. Patrick's Day parade this year in downtown Buffalo and this was the first time that the Buffalo Police Department had these on them.

The Buffalo PD initiated the pilot body cam program and it was an appropriate day to do so in downtown Buffalo to ensure everyone is kept safe--the parade goers AND the officers.

It's taken months and months to finally get underway, but according to our friends at WGRZ:

When asked about the program Sunday at the parade, District Chief Joseph Gramaglia said,

The pilot project has started today. We'll get into more detail in the near future, but we have started a pilot project today."

According to Byron Brown, the Buffalo Police Department could get up to 550 body cams for the future.
