Mark Flack Is This Week’s Hometown Hero!!
We are proud each week to tell you about people from right here in Western New York who help to ensure our freedom in our armed services. This week, we honor 29 year old Sgt. Mark Flack with the United States Marine Corps.
Mark is originally from Hamburg, NY and is currently a patient at Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center receiving treatment for his combat related injuries.
Mark has been serving in the Marines as an Infantryman and Combat Instructor for over eight years. He has shown tremendous strength and fortitude throughout his recovery. This October marks his one year anniversary of being at Walter Reed.
He is the biggest Buffalo Bills fans and watches the games every chance he gets! He misses being at home in Hamburg where he served as a volunteer firefighter. He misses snowmobiling, tailgating, yelling at the TV at Bills and Sabres games and his family.
The picture taken above is from when he fell asleep with his little girl in his arms in his hospital bed. It was that moment when the magnitude of the sacrifices that he has made overwhelmed me with a sense of pride and overwhelming emotion.
It is for his sacrifice, his courage, his strength and often times stubbornness to push through that I nominate him to be a WYRK Hometown Hero. -- Susan Flack
We are proud to name him this week's Hometown Hero. His strength and courage cannot be overlooked. Thank you to Mark and his family for their sacrifice.
