The weather across New York State is about to get cold and nasty for the next few days.It wouldn't surprise me if the salt trucks and plow trucks were out in some locations across the higher elevations of New York.

Can you imagine how many vehicles it takes to keep the streets and highways and state-owned parking lots clean of snow and ice? That being said, what if those vehicles need repairs? That is why New York State has big money and big benefits waiting for someone who has the skills and talent to help.

The State DOT is currently looking to hire fleet technicians and highway maintenance workers, and those openings include permanent and seasonal positions. Applicants need to be at least 18-years-old and pass a physical and drug test. But the starting salary looks pretty good. According to the state website:

The starting salary for a NYSDOT Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) is $43,484.*

Appointees in the New York City area (Bronx, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond [State Island], Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester counties) will receive an additional $3,026 annual location pay differential.

Not too shabby and remember that many full-time positions in the state do offer extra benefits including retirement and really good healthcare. There are some things that you need to have under your belt. Experience is key for these positions. You will need 4 years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic.
