Third Time This Has Happened In Mega Millions History

Looks like we still haven't found a winner for the Mega Millions jackpot, which makes the new jackpot for Friday’s drawing valued at over one billion dollars. 

Think about what you could do with that money! It’s almost stressful, for lack of a better term, to think about what one’s life would look like after winning the Mega Millions jackpot.

I mean, think about it: your name gets put in a press release for everyone in the world to see, so people are going to be aware who won the prize money and you can bet that people across the world will be watching you to see what you choose to do with your winnings.

Wasn’t it Uncle Ben in Spiderman that said, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Would your friends and family expect you to donate part of your lump sum to charity? A non-profit? 

Well, let’s not think about that right now, because there is something else on everyone’s mind after the latest drawing did not find a winner: When is the last time the Mega Millions surpassed one billion dollars in prize money?

Even when you factor in how much comes out of that amount due to taxes, that is still a lot of money. 

In its history, the Mega Millions have only surpassed $1 billion three times, and all three have happened in the last five years. 

• $1.537 billion - October 23, 2018
• $1.050 billion - January 22, 2021
• $1.025 billion - July 29, 2022

Other than those three, the highest amount recorded was $656 million in March 2012. 

Tuesday was the busiest night for the Mega Millions website with more visitors than any in the history of the site. The website was down for more than two hours following the drawing of numbers. 

The next drawing for Mega Millions is Friday, July 29 at 11 P.M. EST, and if you have the winning ticket, you can expect a cash payout of $602.5 million.
