The Year The WYRK Taste Of Country Couldn't Finish

For the most part, the Taste of Country shows over the years have gone very smoothly. But in 2012, Mother Nature had different plans. It's the only year that we weren't able to finish the show.

As we get ready to celebrate our 25th anniversary show of the WYRK Taste of Country, we're remembering some of the shows of our past. In 2012, we were faced with what felt like, at the time, a monster hill to climb.

The lineup for the 2012 Taste of Country was amazing

At the time, it was one of the fastest-selling tickets we had ever sold. Eric Church was a huge draw for people, and tickets sold out quickly. With a lineup like this, it was no surprise.

It was only 4 acts, but every one of them was incredible.

The weather was the real showstopper that night

2012 was another year where we had to keep our eyes on the skies. Rain was threatening all day, and we tried to push through. We were able to make it through the first three acts on the bill, but just before Eric Church went on stage, the winds picked up. Along with the pouring down rain, we were dealing with very strong winds that could have been very dangerous to everyone in the crowd, and the artists on stage.

Management and Eric Church's team together had to make the tough decision to cancel the show for the night. It was a decision that felt like it took forever. Everyone wanted the show to go on, but for the safety of everyone involved, canceling was the right decision.

Luckily, Eric Church was incredible about it. While he technically had no obligation to return, he wanted to come back and put on a hell of a show for Buffalo.

He rescheduled for just a couple of weeks down the road. We were able to get him to come back, only this time, he played at Darien Lake. We even got another opener to come. JT Hodges came out and opened up for Eric Church and gave us a whole second show.

This is one of the reasons why you should never buy tickets from a secondary source

While it was a huge pain in the neck, this experience taught us why you should never buy your tickets from a secondary market. When we had to reschedule the show, the only way to issue tickets to the new show was to send them out to the people who had originally bought them. So people who had bought from someone else were not able to get tickets to the new show.
