Backstage Secrets: Backstage Baseball With Scotty McCreery At TOC

It's impossible to take in everything that happens at our Taste of Country shows, and unfortunately, not everyone has access to every area at Sahlen Field. So for this memory of the Taste of Country, we're going to have to take you backstage before the concert.

The 2018 WYRK Taste of Country Lineup

In 2018, we had an all-new lineup with stars who had never been at the show before. Some of them ended up coming back years later, but 2018 was the first time for all of them. Here was our 2018 Taste of Country lineup:

Chris Janson did end up coming back to play for us again in 2025. You'll notice that we had our second Taste of Country riser to open the show too!

Backyard Baseball goes wrong with Scotty McCreery

One of the funniest stories from the 2018 Taste of Country happened backstage before one of our artists did their set.

A lot of people know that Scotty McCreery was an American Idol winner. He won in 2011. What a lot of people don't know is that when Scotty was in high school, he was a pretty good baseball player. So we thought it would be fun to play a little wiffle ball with him backstage before he went on to see if he still "had it."

He still had it.

We cleared out the area. He stepped up to bat with his plastic bat. We pitched him the ball. Then he SMACKED that thing and sent a line drive right at the security guard who was working the area.

Scotty felt awful. He immediately went over to make sure they were ok and apologized profusely. Needless to say, that was that for backstage baseball. We didn't really do that anymore.
