There is so much to choose from on the list, I completely get it, but at the top of my weekend wish list, I have to go with the Dragonboat Festival. I’ve never heard of that before! Have you?
Of course, the Juneteenth celebration is important, and hopefully you are able to go. If not, there are other ways to celebrate the day freedom finally came back in 1865.
What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. On June 19, 1865, 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state were free by executive decree. The day, June 19, became known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.
Whatever you have planned for this weekend, have fun and be safe.
