When is it appropriate for a mother or father to give their kids an alcoholic beverage? 18? 21? Somewhere in between? I always hear the saying "They can die for our country but, they can't have a beer!"

Here's a doozie where a mother decided that 14 was old enough for her daughter. A 51-year-old Connecticut woman has been arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor for serving the 14 year old more than one margarita during dinner a few weeks ago.

Middletown police went to 200 Main St. at 7:21 p.m. on Feb. 27 to investigate a report of an intoxicated female and found a 14-year-old girl who appeared to be drunk and her mother, Joann Goulet LePage, 51, of East Hampton, police said, according to NBC.

The teen was transported to the hospital and was released.

Is this bad parenting? Would it have been OK for the mother to give her margaritas if she was 18? Or only when she was 21?
