Not that 2020 has been a super social year for anyone in the United States, but when it comes to social media, more than half of us aren't doing this one common thing anymore.

Going out with friends is certainly fraught with difficulty during a global pandemic. Emotions are high and people have plenty of opinions about what we should and shouldn't be allowed to do.

In reaction to the overabundance of caution, judgment, and possible perception of optics, more than half of us will get together with friends -- as long as no one posts about it.

In a new survey by SWNS Digital, 54 percent of respondents said they would only consider breaking quarantine to be social with a friend, as long as there would be no evidence of it on social media sites, like Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, or Facebook.

SWNS Digital calls these people “secret socializers,” people who only feel comfortable going out, as long as no one else knows they're going out.

But, are people going out? As coronavirus infections increase in parts of the United States, the same survey says 60 percent of us are only comfortable attending virtual parties for the rest of 2020 at least.
