The Buffalo Zoo Needs Your Help To Name Their New Baby Monkey

They just went through this a couple of weeks ago when they were trying to name their new baby penguin, and now they need your help again. Can you help them name their brand-new baby howler monkey?

The Buffalo Zoo was blessed with a new baby howler monkey in April

Congratulations to new first-time howler monkey mom Rio (7) and first-time dad Tater (8) as they gave birth to a new baby on April 20, 2026. It's a black howler monkey and it's a boy! They're all doing well and are on exhibit now at the M&T Bank Rainforest Falls each morning through the early afternoon.

Now it needs a name.

The zoo wants your help naming their new monkey

You may remember a few weeks ago when the zoo was asking for your help in naming their new baby penguin. They gave you 4 names to choose from and asked you to vote. That baby ended up being named "Iris" after a Goo Goo Dolls song.

Now, they're doing it again for their howler monkey. The animal care team has narrowed the field to just 4 names and they're asking you to help make the final decision.

Here are the names to choose from

The names they've narrowed it down to include:

Beni (BEH-nee) - After the Beni River in Bolivia. Also, a little tie-in to mom, Rio, since they’re both connected to South American waterways.

Julián (hoo-lee-AHN / JOO-lee-in) - means “youthful.”

Cortado (kor-TAH-doh) - A popular South American espresso drink.

Castanha (kah-STAHN-yah) - Meaning chestnut in Portuguese
