There's a proposal by Governor Andrew Cuomo that would extend the New York State Fair five days earlier than usual, which would overlap with the three final days of the Erie County Fair, according to WIVB.

There's a concern with vendors that attend both fairs and this summer, they may have to choose between one or the other.

“It impacts the business model of people who plan on that revenue,” Underberg said. “So if they have to choose between us and the State Fair, that’s a significant decrease, one way or another – whichever fair they choose – in their revenue," says Erie County Fair CEO and manager Jessica Underberg.

There's concern with both vendors and livestock exhibitors.

“Livestock exhibitors…a lot them qualify in a county fair and then go on to show at the state fair, or a lot of the open class live exhibitors, non-youth, show at both,” says Underberg.

The Erie County Fair won't change its dates because they don't want to overlap with other fairs and festivals in the area, such as the Eden Corn Festival. The New York State Fair's proposed date extension would also overlap other fairs in the state.
