There’s a Push To Divide New York State Into Three Separate Regions
Could you imagine New York State separating into three different regions? Well, there's now a legislation being pushed to divide he Empire state into three autonomous regions.
According to WGRZ, New York Senator Rob Ortt and Assemblyman David DiPietro are pushing the three regions legislation.
Here's how it would work:
Upstate New York (including Western New York) would become the New Amsterdam Region.
Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk, West Chester would become the Montauk Region.
Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island would become the New York Region.
"Let's just look at the last six months," says New York Senator Rob Ortt. "I would hard-pressed to identify a lot of legislation that came out that was beneficial for Western New York, for Upstate New York."
The New York State Assembly and Senate would stay the same under the new legislation.
Educational meetings have been held across the state, including one in Lackawanna on Tuesday night.
"Each region would have its own governor and those senate and assembly people in that region would be the representation that we have now statewide," DiPietro said.
DiPietro said the new regions would help create more jobs and lower taxes here in Western New York.
There's still some skepticism about the proposal, so it still has a long way to go before becoming reality but what do you think of this new three regions idea for NYS?
