New York State Drivers About To See These Changes?
There may be changes coming to a road near you in New York State.
As we wind down the couple of months of the school year, families across New York are dreaming of the summer and the fun that is waiting. As the good weather arrives, you can already see a bunch of kids walking to and from school and dozens on bikes.
School zones are becoming safer in much of the state as speed limit changes are happening and slowing down the traffic in the areas near schools.
WHAT IS THE IDEAL SPEED?
In parts of New York State, the reduction in speed started months ago and there has already been a noticeable difference.
In Albany, the speed limit around the city was changed to 25 and it made a big impact. According to at least one report, "Albany police responded to 743 crashes as of March 18, compared to 889 in the first three months of last year. At that rate, the city was on track to see about 868 crashes in the first three months of 2025, with 108 involving injury".
WILL OTHER CITIES CHANGE SPEED LIMITS?
Dropping the speed limit may be something that other cities consider. Not only would it make streets, and those around schools better for those who walk or ride a bike, it might mean more money coming in from traffic tickets.
Back in 2017, it was reported that the City of Buffalo made millions off of traffic tickets and perhaps that would increase with a change in the speed limit?
