In post on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Facebook page, it was noted that this fish is the biggest and largest catfish reported in New York!

"Dylan Kampnich of Dexter, NY caught a 40 inch, 37 lb. 9 oz. channel catfish from Black River Bay in Jefferson County on May 3rd while fishing from shore with his son. His monster catfish broke the 3 year old record (that was also caught from Black River Bay) by almost 2 pounds".

While Lake Champlain seems to offer the biggest and best, NY State says "Catfish are found across much of the state, and you probably have a waterbody near you that has a good catfish population".
