Yes we've had quite a mild winter I think I may have scraped snow off my jeep only twice this year.  Today, the International Joint Commission’s International Niagara Board of Control announced that preparations are underway for the ice boom to be removed from the Niagara River which is another sure sign of spring.

Here we are in the first week of March; would that be the earliest the ice boom has ever been removed?  Nope according to International Joint Commission’s International Niagara Board of Control, the earliest date on record was February 28, 2012. The latest removal date was May 3, 1971.

Here's some footage from 5 years ago when the boom was removed with snow and ice flow in the river.
