NYS Has 3 Important Reminders For Deer Hunters

The weather looks pretty decent for Saturday and the opening day of the firearm season for those who love to hunt whitetail deer in Western New York.

At sunrise this Saturday, the action begins and the Department of Environmental Conservation in New York State has a few reminders for those who are heading out.

First and foremost, be safe! Make sure that you are following all of the guidelines and safety reminders that you were taught in your hunter certification class. No your target and watch beyond! Also have a great time and good luck! Remember to tag and report the animal that you take this weekend as well.

Opening day of the firearm season is a tradition that has lasted generations for many of my friends and family. I have been hunting since I was 16 years old and now that we have kids, I will be introducing them to hunting as well. If they like it, great. If not that’s fine too. I am not going to force my hobbies on my kids but I will introduce them to the outdoors and help them understand how hunting is more than killing, it is a form of conservation that is very important. Respecting wildlife in the outdoors will be a lesson that I focus on with our kids.
