10 Popular Birds You Might See At Your New York Bird Feeder
It's that time of year when birds are really getting active. They're nesting and starting new families which takes a ton of energy. So if they haven't already started, they're going to be hitting up your feeders soon.
I know, it was just yesterday that we felt so young, and now, we get excited when we get a visit at our bird feeder from a bird we haven't seen in awhile. Bird watching has always felt like something that "old people" do to me. Now, it's one of my favorite parts of the day.
It catches up on you quickly though. Before you know it, you're buying bird feeders for every side of your house, just in case, and a new bag of feed every week. You might want to fight it because you're still young, but once you just embrace it, it can be one of the coolest things.
How do you get started birding?
First of all, I hate that term. "Birding" sounds so weird. I guess bird-watching is a little wordy, but it does feel like a better name for it.
I got started when my wife bought a "backup" gift to have on hand just in case a birthday popped up that we had overlooked and needed a gift to give. It was this cool little bird feeder that attached to your window with suction cups. It was made of plexiglass so that you could see into it easily and because it attached right to your window, you were just separated from them by a pane of glass.
I laughed at it first. Just as many of you probably are about this article right now, but it brought me an immense sense of peace to sit there with a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning while my first pair of male and female cardinals stopped by for a bite to eat. Before you know it I was able to identify tons of birds and just loved to get a visit from them.
Here are some of the most popular ones you might see if you've got a feeder in New York.
