Rare Moose Sighting Has Town Buzzing, Closure in New York State
There is a moose that is getting national attention after the moose provided a rare opportunity for tourists in New York State.
The moose actually caused a little bit of a problem and concern, and then the DEC had to get involved and shut down a trail because it would NOT leave. The DEC shut down the trail a couple of weeks ago, and it is last reported that the trail is still shut down because the moose will not simply leave.
The moose is showing signs of some really unusual behavior, and New York State DEC officials think that the moose might have some sort of illness. They returned to the spot where the moose was last week, which was nearly 6 weeks after the original spotting of the moose happened along the Tupper Lake Trail. The New York State DEC officials determined that they will keep the trail closed. The New York State DEC has a few trails across some of the major parks closed this summer, and the agency regularly updates New Yorkers:
Several trails in New York are currently closed due to various reasons. Additionally, some seasonal access roads and trails in Lewis, Jefferson, and Oneida counties are temporarily closed due to storm damage. Letchworth State Park Trail 15 & 17 is also temporarily closed due to poor trail conditions.
There are about 650 moose in New York State, but it is important to note that generally, moose encounters are not safe for humans. This moose, which has been moving more than it was a month ago, seems to have some sort of illness.
